Webinar| Magic Mirror on the Wall: What Makes the Best Leaders of All? Introduction to the Positionality Prism

10 June 2025     ~     12:00 pm-1:00 pm Eastern Time Zone

https://asem.org/event-6167296

Abstract

How we see the world shapes how we lead. From daily decisions to long-term strategies, our perspectives and lived experiences ripple through every aspect of leadership—from communication and collaboration to team culture and outcomes. This webinar introduces the Positionality Prism, a reflective framework for uncovering how personhood, perception, and power influence our leadership approach.

Inspired by the modern fable Magic Mirror by Dr. Meagan Pollock, this session invites participants to take a metaphorical look in the mirror. What do we see? What do we miss? What stories are we carrying that color the way we lead? Using engaging reflection prompts and practical leadership applications, the session blends insight with action.

Participants will leave with fresh perspective, a sense of curiosity, and tools to lead with greater clarity, connection, and intention.

The book is available in print, eBook, and audiobook formats, but reading is not required to participate.

About the Facilitator

Dr. Meagan Pollock began her career playing with light projection on tiny microscopic mirrors as an engineer for Texas Instruments. Through her company, Engineered Organizations, she now utilizes metaphorical projectors and mirrors to shine a light on micro and macro social systems that, when adjusted, improve student and employee success in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. A TEDx speaker on inclusive leadership, author of the modern fable Magic Mirror, and a past recipient of the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, Meagan holds a PhD in engineering education from Purdue University, an MS in electrical engineering from Texas Tech University, and a BS in computer science from Texas Woman’s University. She currently serves as a new Director for the American Society for Engineering Management. As an engineer turned educator, Meagan focuses on helping others intentionally engineer inclusion® in education and the workforce.
